First off - to see subtitles, please make sure you have the Show Subtitles toggle enabled on the Settings page.

After enabling subtitles, select at least one subtitle language so we can look for subtitles online. We'll try to get subtitles for your videos from outside services like OpenSubtitles based on the language(s) you select.

If we couldn't find any subtitles for you but you've found one that works, you can upload it to put.io by using the +Add your own button in the subtitles section on your browser.

You can also drag & drop it into the same directory if you're on a desktop browser.

You can switch between different subtitles via the CC icon on the player.

Subtitles appear too early or too late? You can adjust the subtitle timing on our web player (app.put.io) by using the H-J keys on your keyboard. This one is only possible on our web player, at least for the time being.

You can also adjust subtitle font settings from captions settings, using the CC button on the player:

If youโ€™re using Chromecast - after you start casting, you'll see the player controls for Chromecast and you can switch the subtitles by using the CC button there. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Lastly, if you don't want any subtitles to be selected by default, you can enable the Do not select subtitles by default option on the Settings page. ๐Ÿ™Œ

P.S. On the Apple TV app, if you cannot see subtitles even though they are turned on, a reason could be tvOS' subtitle settings overriding ours. tvOS has its own subtitle settings and it can interfere with your subtitle settings on put.io. We recommend checking your Apple TV's Settings > Accessibility and check if closed captions are enabled there.
