Do I need a VPN?
Probably not. put.io fetches files on your behalf from our servers. Your IP is never exposed, and your ISP only sees traffic to and from put.io. For more details, see our Privacy Concerns article.
What can go wrong with a VPN?
Slower speeds. A VPN adds an extra hop between you and our servers, which can reduce download and streaming performance. Especially free ones.
IP rate limit. We limit how many different IP addresses can download or stream from your account in a short period. VPNs frequently rotate your IP, which can trigger this limit. When that happens, streaming and downloading are temporarily restricted for about an hour.
If you still want to use a VPN, we'd suggest checking if your provider offers a static or dedicated IP to avoid triggering the rate limit.
